It Is Finished

Friends,

It is finished. I have gone through my story in one final proof and have decided that it is complete! It is a somewhat weird feeling knowing that I do not have to revisit the plot or characters or setting or anything else in this book again. I feel very satisfied with what I have done, and hopefully in time you will feel satisfied as well upon reading the book.

As you’ll see in this little sneak peak, the word count has come to a grand total of just shy of 38K words. The subtractions that I made were all the asterisks and such that act as breaks in the flow of the story. It’s amazing that I initially set out with a ballpark figure of 25K words in mind, and yet here I am about to publish a book with much more than that. The writing was not forced, but rather ideas came to me and they seemed to fit with the rest of the story.

If you haven’t heard me mention it already, I’ll mention here again. I have been using the author services of the WaveCloud Corporation to bring my book to life. They designed my cover professionally, which I will be revealing next week, and they offer many more services on top of that. One such resource that they offer is a series of webinars. There is a process to joining in on the live webinars that I won’t detail here, but I would strongly suggest that anyone using WaveCloud’s services should take part in the webinars. They are worth the time.

I am extremely humbled by the things I have learned from others, both through WaveCloud and social media, because of how it has helped me in my process as an author. I couldn’t have imagined myself in this position five months ago when I began writing my first book, but I am very glad I have made it to this point. I cannot wait to see where the road takes me!

Even Closer

Friends,

Another week has gone by and I am getting very close to bringing you my first book! This whole process has been, is, and I’m sure will continue to be exciting for me, and hopefully for you. I am finishing the final proof of my manuscript as I write this now; I have gotten the final cover from my designer; and I have almost everything set up logistically to launch the book very soon.

I aim to reveal the title in next week’s blog. I am looking forward to sharing it with you! The title itself will appear on my Twitter and Facebook, but more details will be included in the blog. More details will be revealed in subsequent blogs, so follow along for all the information you need to have to know about my debut book. I have very much enjoyed writing it; I hope you get as much enjoyment from reading it!

Final Phase

Friends,

Today, I begin the final phase of the writing process for my debut book–I have begun the last read-through of my manuscript before sending it off! It is really an exciting feeling, knowing that I’m inching closer to the end goal of getting it out to you, the public. I am currently working on building up my other profiles (like Goodreads, Twitter, etc.), so please check those out if you haven’t already! I look forward to posting details regarding my book’s release over the coming weeks, anxious to see how the process goes. Please tell your friends about me and my work!

Release Information

Friends,

I hope you all had a wonderful weekend and have had a great start to your work week! I am happy to inform you that the process is going smoothly for my first book. I wanted to include some details in today’s blog regarding my debut book.

I will be releasing most, if not all, details regarding my book’s release via this blog over the coming weeks. I won’t release complete plot details or anything like that–only little teaser quotes or bits of a summary. The book cover will also be in there at some point. From where I stand now, I plan to release the book in May.

I am diligently working on the manuscript, which is in its final stages. Currently, the book stands at just shy of 35,500 words, but I foresee it ending up closer to 38-40K words when it’s all said and done. The book will be available first as an e-book, then in print. Again, more details regarding those sorts of things will be revealed in the coming weeks.

Thank you for your interest in my work. I really enjoy the writing and self-publishing processes, and I only hope I can continue.

Closer

Friends,

I cannot even begin to describe to you the joy and satisfaction I am experiencing right now. For the majority of each of the past few days, I have revised the manuscript for my first book, adding some material along the way. I am approaching 35,000 words and surmise that I won’t end up much higher than 37-38,000 when it’s all said and done. The writing that has taken place is only part of an overall exciting and enlightening experience.

I have mentioned that, in addition to revising, work has commenced on the book cover, and I must say that it looks very good! I look forward to revealing it in the coming weeks. I can comfortably say that the release will be sometime in the next few months, hopefully before the end of May. So spread the word to your friends!

A quick shout-out to WaveCloud, the organization I chose to go with for my self-publishing needs. The book cover work that has come from them has been amazing, and I can surmise that the quality of their ebook conversion services will be just as high-caliber. I only expect good things to come in the future. It surely pays to work with a positive, optimistic attitude!

With Much Anticipation

Friends,

I apologize for the lapse in time since my last blog; much has been happening on my end of things that has kept me from posting anything worthy of news. However, I am pleased to inform you now that I am in the process of securing the book cover for my first book, the details of which will be released in due time. I am also revisiting earlier portions of the book that I’d already finished (at least at the time) and finding myself only making minor additions or corrections, if anything at all. This reassures me that the draft is almost ready for publishing, which is a very confidence-boosting thought.

I still await the third and final portion of the book to be given to me from my editor, but I assure you that I will get right to work on finishing the draft when that day comes. When I handed in the draft initially, it was about 31K words; right now, after revisions and other additions, it is climbing closer to 33K. I will give a better idea of the exact word count as the Reveal Day gets closer. I am very excited for all that has happened thus far, and I work with much anticipation for where this process will take me.

Thoughts

Friends,

While I await the third and final portion of my book to be sent from a friend who’s helping me edit the story, I would like to take a moment to think out loud.

I have really tried to be mindful of so much while writing this first book. I want to make sure I do a good job all around, with anything from writing to publishing to marketing. Not only do I enjoy writing, which is one reason I do it, but I also hope that YOU can enjoy what I write as well. My hope is that I can deliver a good story to an eager audience, and continue to do so for as long as I can.

As I write, I think about ways to better myself and my writing through my experience. I would love to hear suggestions from you, my readership, on things you like and dislike in my stories, so I can better tailor them to you. Obviously, I can’t write everything specifically how each person would like, but I would like to find a happy medium. So please, once I get my books up and going–especially this first one–communicate with me your thoughts on the stories.

I am already thinking up ideas for future books, and I only hope that I can do a good enough job in the beginning to keep working later on. That’s where my readership comes in: my audience can help me become better and want to continue to work. Please tell your friends, family, and anyone else you’d like about me and my writing.

The Joy of Revising

Friends,

I have only a brief thought for you.

Today, I finished revising the second of three parts that compose my first book. I must say it is such a joy to expand my creative side and write a story that I enjoy making from practically nothing. Sure, there are historical facts and truths that I research for accuracy, but the “meat and potatoes” of the story come directly from my grey matter. This is something I could do for a living, or at the very least a modest hobby, and I know this because of the satisfaction that writing brings me. Knowing I’ve made something that has the potential to enlighten or bring joy to others is something quite special. And I believe that special feeling can only truly be felt by someone who is devoted to their craft. I only hope that in the end I can look back on my experience and see that it was so with me.

So here’s a question for you: what have you done recently (or perhaps plan to do) that not only brings satisfaction to you, but that also enlightens or brings joy to others? Think about it.

First Book Jitters

Friends,

I am pleased to tell you that I just received the second of three portions that compose my story from a friend who is helping out with the editing. As I go through the text and revise, I can’t help but feel somewhat nervous but still very excited about the whole process. The excitement aspect springs from the fact that this is all a fun and new experience for me, and because I’m doing something that I truly enjoy. The nervous aspect still lurches in the background. What should my cover look like? How should I write my main character? Does something there need tweaking? Where is the balance between emotion and action? So many questions fill my thoughts as I revise the story. I just hope I can calm myself down and do this thing right.

However, I know that this is a learning process, as are many things when done for the first time. I find calm and inspiration when I watch YouTube videos or read others blogs and posts by authors addressing these issues. If you are reading this and you are in my novice shoes, I strongly advise that you look to those who have come before you for strength and inspiration as well. If you are reading this and you are an experienced author, I implore you for any guiding advice on these issues I am facing.

As for the story itself, here is a tiny bit of information…a teaser, if you will: the main character’s name is…actually, I don’t think I want to divulge that information just yet. Being a rookie author, I want to utilize the element of surprise and anticipation as much as I can. I will tell you this, however: my hope and aim is to get this book released through Amazon by May. I am working diligently on the project so I can get a good story into your hands.

If you have friends or know of anyone who would be interested in a historical fiction story, refer this blog to them, as well as the Facebook and Twitter pages, so they can follow along and keep informed on things.

Chuggin’ Along

Friends,

I am excited to share with you a few things. First off, the book I’m currently working on, which is also my first, is coming along very well. Since beginning the writing process around Thanksgiving of last year, I have written over 30,000 words and divided the book into three parts. It has been a fun and enriching experience to write this story, especially since it falls into my area of personal interest in terms of history. I will have a better idea on a possible release date for the book in the coming weeks. Also, getting acquainted with the self-publishing process through Amazon Kindle Direct Publishing (KDP) and CreateSpace has been a somewhat daunting yet rewarding experience thus far. It is truly an encouraging notion that self-publishing is fairly simple and straightforward, not difficult like many make it out to be. I work with anticipation for what is still in store for me and the readership I hope to develop.

Secondly, I have just recently built up my various profiles that I will use to get the word out about my book and to maintain communication with my readers. If you have an account on the following websites and would like to look me up, here’s what you can search for:

Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/elikaleauthor

Twitter: http://www.twitter.com/Eli_Kale

I would like to point out that this WordPress blog will be the primary tool I will use when communicating with my readers. Sure, there will be updates and other important information on Facebook and Twitter, but this is where my major activity will be. Facebook and Twitter will be used like this…

Facebook will serve as a platform from which readers can glean information about the books I have written, am currently writing, and about books that are still to come. The other main feature of my Eli Kale page on Facebook is the mailing list signup form on the tab titled, “Subscribe for Updates.” Here, readers can subscribe to a mailing list to receive (via e-mail) important updates and other information, usually before that information hits the social media sites. So it’s essentially a VIP list, if you think about it.

Twitter will serve as a platform from which readers can get important and up-to-date information on the book currently in development, as well as books previously published. There will also be videos, links, and pictures that will pop up from time to time about my books or things related to them. And sometimes, I may just post something that I find interesting or intriguing.

I will keep you informed on developments as they happen.

-Eli
